Countertops

Park Cabinets offers a full range of countertop products with flat lay laminate countertops we manufacture, as well as postform laminate countertops through Floform Countertops and the popular range of "solid surface countertops" including:

In solid surface countertops, there  are 2 general types.  The frist type are those of 100% natural stone like granite, soapstone or marble.  These are naturally occuring stone that are quarried, cut into slabs and then cut to countertops and finished.  The second type is an engineered product where the slabs are manufactured from a combination of materials depending on the product.  For quartz, the slab is made of approximately 93% natural quartz stone and the remainder being coloring pigments and resin to form a solid slab in a manufacturing process.  Corian is also manufactured but is made in a process that is completely different from a quartz product.  It is made exclusively from Dupont chemicals and colouring systems as they are original inventor of the Corian product.

Laminates

Laminate

There are 2 basic types of laminate countetops - flat lay styles and postform.

Park Cabinets manufacturers our own flat lay countertops with either a square PL edge or the more popular bevel edge.  The advantages of this style is they can be made without seams in a corner and depending on the size of the countertop, with no seam at all.

Postform countertops are only manufactured by a couple of companies in Canada so we purchase them though an industry partner like Floform Countertops.  Postform tops offer a wider range of edge profiles with or without integrated backsplashes.  While they have the advantage of a selection of seamless front edges, when installed on countertops with angles, they must be pieced together with mitre joints so they have visible physical joints at any corner.

Laminate colors and finishes have advanced significantly in the last few years with a wide range of very affordable options to select from.  Below are the most popular suppliers we deal with and their websites offer good tools to view the laminate colors.

Solid Surface Countertops

Solidsurface

In solid surface countertops, there  are 2 general types.  The first type are those made of 100% natural stone like granite, soapstone or marble.  These are naturally occuring stone that are quarried, cut into slabs and then cut to countertops and finished.  The second type is an engineered product where the product is manufactured from a combination of materials depending on the product.  For quartz, the slab is made of approximately 93% natural quartz stone and the remainder being coloring pigments and resin to form a solid slab.

Solid surface countertops have become increasingly popular over the past few years.  While some products may be more affordable than they previously were, they all maintain a significant premium to laminates.

All the solid surfaces come with their own unique benefits making some a more suitable choice in certain applications than others.  However, it most often comes down to a personal choice based on your own style and what you find appealing in the range of colors available and which set of product benefits you find best suits your needs.

There are numerous resources available that outline the characteristics of granite , quartz, Corian, marble, soapstone and so on.  We would be pleased to show you each and outline the differences between them and help you select which best fits in your situation.
